Volunteers play an important role in our school and are a vital part of our school community. We welcome volunteers and acknowledge their support and contributions. To assist volunteers with their involvement and to ensure their ‘well being’ and protection, as well as that of the children and staff, a number of processes are in place. These are articulated in the ‘Information for Volunteers’ brochure and other school policies. Volunteers need to ‘register’ with the school and are required to have a Police Check completed. Volunteers will need to ‘check in’ using the “Visitors Register” at the front office and wear a ‘Visitors Badge’ and then ‘check out’ on departure. Records of work with students may also be kept, to monitor their progress.
We believe children’s learning and their overall education is enhanced by the partnership between the school community - with children, parents and teachers working together and sharing in all aspects of school life.
In practical terms this may mean:
The Board exists “to ensure that the School fulfils its responsibility of Christian Education, and to administer the School’s business and financial affairs”. The School Board is comprised of 8 nominated persons from local Uniting or other churches, a Parents and Friends nominee and one Staff nominee. The School Principal and the Senior Pastor from the Aberfoyle Uniting Church are ex-officio members.
Parents and Friends (P&F) Association
This Association consists of any parents or friends who wish to participate in the life of the school. In addition to social and pastoral activities, this group raises a considerable amount of money for the school. This Association has an annual election for President, Secretary, Treasurer and other interested people are regarded as committee members.
Parent and Friends Team
Visitors are most welcome in the school and across the Campus. While you may visit the school at any time, please do contact the front office to arrange a time for a tour and then you can be assured that there will be someone to show you around.
All parents and volunteers who help in the school between 9.00a.m. and 3.00p.m. are required to sign the ‘Visitors Register’ at the Front Office and collect a label and wear it while helping around the school.
Class Liaison Representatives
Each class has parent representatives who give of their time contributing to and supporting the school community. This may be through arranging a class get-together, welcoming a new family or assisting the Parents and Friends Committee. During the year the parents from each class are asked to contribute to the life of the school by carrying out a particular responsibility (eg: BBQ for Commencement Celebration, Year 7 Graduation or New Parents' Dinner). The class liaisons will inform you of this.
The Parents and Friends Association for Pilgrim raises significant amounts of money for the school through a variety of events such as; sausage sizzles, quiz nights, bush dances etc. The Campus Event Committee initiates events across the Campus where money raised goes to expenditure on the shared areas of the Campus.
A group of parents meet each week to pray for the school, children, staff, families, special needs, events, etc. All parents are welcome to join this group.
